Safety First
The EyeSight advanced safety suite has come to be expected on most of Subaru's high-end vehicles, but it comes standard on all trim levels of the new Ascent. This advanced safety and driver assist suite includes everything from forward collision warnings and automatic pre-collision braking to adaptive cruise control, a lane change assist system, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Plus, the automaker will offer available steering responsive headlights and high beam assist, a new front view monitor, and reverse automatic braking for drivers looking for a little bit of extra technological assistance.
Plenty of Power
The 2019 Subaru Ascent near New Orleans, LA will be powered by a completely new 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, set up in the automaker's usual horizontal configuration. The engine offers 260 horsepower and 277 pounds per foot of peak torque, allowing even this large SUV to offer plenty of power for daily driving. Its engine is also strong enough to offer a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds, which, when combined with trailer stability assist and the Ascent's 8.7 inches of ground clearance, allows drivers to get up to speed and drive safely even while towing large loads.
Fuel economy figures have yet to be announced, but the automaker has revealed that its new SUV will be able to travel more than 500 miles between fill-ups. Plus, its new engine will be coupled with an equally new continuously variable automatic transmission and will, of course, feature Subaru's renowned standard all-wheel-drive system. Its standard all-wheel-drive system also comes with the bonus of active torque vectoring, giving it that extra bit of finesse it needs to help it stand out from the crowd.
Roomy Cabin
The Ascent will feature more cargo room behind its third-row seating than its leading competitors and as much as 86.5 cubic feet of cargo space with both the third and second-row seats folded down, and plenty of leg room for adults and children alike, making it a perfect family SUV. Drivers have the option of purchasing models with either the line's standard second-row bench, which, with its third row as well, offers seating for up to eight passengers, or trading out the second-row bench for captain's chairs at no additional cost. While exercising this option does decrease seating capacity to seven instead of eight, it allows families that have child seats or booster seats in the second row to access third-row passenger seating more easily.
Subaru has also upped the ante on family-friendly amenities for its new 2019 Ascent. This seven to eight passenger SUV boasts an impressive 19 cup holders and up to eight available USB ports among other conveniences, such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility comes standard on all trim levels. Plus, its remarkably quiet interior allows drivers to engage in conversation easily even with third-row passengers.
Trim Levels and Options
In addition to the standard features discussed above, the base level Ascent also comes with tri-zone climate control, Bluetooth compatibility, a rearview camera, and the automaker's impressive StarLink infotainment system complete with a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Upgrading to the Premium trim gets drivers heated front seats, a larger touchscreen, leather-wrapped steering wheels and shifters, spill-resistant upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, rear climate control, and even a programmable power rear liftgate. Limited trim models get LED headlights and fog lights, heated second-row seats, a keyless start and entry system, a power-adjustable passenger's seat, and leather upholstery.
The line's range-topping Touring trim offers a touch of genuine luxury, with ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, elegant Java brown leather upholstery, a navigation system, an impressive 180-degree front view camera, and even an industry-leading 14-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system. Many of these features, including the sunroof and the audio system, come available as options on lower trim levels, too, giving drivers plenty of options.
