Fuel economy numbers weren’t available at the time of our review, but Subaru says the Ascent can get about 500 miles from a tank of fuel. The aforementioned engine is mated to a CVT that’s been programmed to mimic the feel of an eight-speed. As with every other Subaru except for the sporty BRZ, the 2019 Ascent has standard AWD. Here, shoppers get X-Mode traction technology, hill descent assist, and torque vectoring. At 8.7” ground clearance, the vehicle can travel over harsher terrain than most other crossovers in the class.
