Ride in the 3rd row of the 2019 Subaru Ascent in Southern LA

Subaru has gone into the third-row crossover market before but now, it’s ready for a more confident entry into the segment with the 2019 Subaru Ascent near Lafayette, LA. Subaru owners have always been brand-loyal, and the new Ascent gives them a way to accommodate a growing family. In this brief review, shoppers can find out more about the 2019 Ascent.

Exterior

There’s no denying it: the Ascent is big. At almost 197 inches, it’s one of the longest crossovers in the segment.  The Ascent rides on a version of the automaker’s Global Platform, which will someday form the basis of all Subaru’s vehicles. Despite its size, it’s well-proportioned, and it has a more sculptural look than some of Subaru’s other offerings.

Interior Features

The 2019 Ascent comes in four different trims: base, Premium, Limited, and the Touring Edition. It seats up to eight people, except for the Touring Edition, which seats seven with its second-row captain’s chairs. The base model comes with tri-zone climate controls and roof rails. To go along with its size, the Ascent offers ample cargo space, with 72.6 cu. ft. behind the second row of seats. The vehicle’s passenger volume is more than competitive with other three-row crossovers in the class.

Add-Ons and Features

With a step up from the base model, the Premium trim includes a spill- and stain-resistant interior, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, a power adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seating and side mirrors, a windshield de-icer, an eight-inch Starlink infotainment screen, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity. Options on the Premium trim include push-button start, a navigation system, a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, and 20” wheels. The Limited trim level gives shoppers some of the above options as standard equipment, and it also comes with leather upholstery, responsive headlamps, reverse auto braking, and additional USB ports. At the top of the Ascent line, the Touring trim level gives buyers brown leather upholstery, upgraded interior trim, vented front seats, a better audio system, a smart rear view system, and a front view monitor.

Power Under the Hood

The 2019 Subaru Ascent is powered by a 2.4L four-cylinder turbo engine that puts out 260hp. While that’s not the highest number in the class, what the Ascent lacks in power it makes up in towing capacity. Subaru says the Ascent can tow up to 5000 pounds, and towing is made easier with trailer stability assistance features. Fuel economy numbers weren’t available at the time of our review, but Subaru says the Ascent can get about 500 miles from a tank of fuel. The aforementioned engine is mated to a CVT that’s been programmed to mimic the feel of an eight-speed.  As with every other Subaru except for the sporty BRZ, the 2019 Ascent has standard AWD. Here, shoppers get X-Mode traction technology, hill descent assist, and torque vectoring. At 8.7” ground clearance, the vehicle can travel over harsher terrain than most other crossovers in the class.

Safety Features

Subaru has always been known for building safe vehicles, and the 2019 Subaru Ascent near Lafayette, LA is no exception. Because of its reinforced frame, the Ascent, like most other Subarus, gets top crash test ratings. To minimize the chances and severity of a collision, Subaru has made its EyeSight collection of safety technology as a standard feature. The package includes auto emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and more. On higher trim levels, add-ons like reverse auto braking, rear cross traffic warning, and others keep drivers and passengers safe.

Tech Goodies

Subaru meets the device charging needs of today’s connected passengers and drivers by offering up to eight USB ports. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, and depending on the shopper’s trim choice, they can add extras such as 4G Wi-Fi connectivity. At the Touring level, customers get a smart rearview mirror that includes a screen so it’s easy to see what’s going on behind the vehicle. The available front view monitor gives drivers a chance to see what’s around the corner. There’s also a new concierge service that helps customers schedule service appointments and make restaurant reservations.

With all of the above features and Subaru’s reputation for quality and safety, it’s easy to see why the 2019 Ascent near Lafayette, LA is so popular.
