The coming of spring has certainly been very much welcome in Baton Rouge and in other parts of the country; and what better way to celebrate the arrival of warmer weather than to get that car you have been dreaming of all throughout the dreary winter?

Car dealers around the country advise consumers that now is a good time to buy a car. CNN correspondent Karin Caifa explains in a report that many dealers may now be offering price cuts on new cars, particularly models that are about to be discontinued or modified. The writer also gives some pointers on what to consider when buying a new car:

"From style to pricing, most of a consumer's research can be done before ever meeting a salesperson.

Some big things to consider:

  • Space and storage needs

  • Ownership costs, like fuel economy and maintenance

  • Financing plans"

The considerations listed above also lead to another question: should you buy a brand new car, or a used one? A reliable Baton Rouge area auto sales company typically carries a fleet of new cars along with a wide inventory of used ones. Before heading out to look at these beauties, it is best to have an understanding of the advantages of both new and used cars.

New Cars

New cars, of course, have the advantage of never having been used before, and therefore, of being guaranteed accident and damage-free. This translates to lower expected maintenance costs, at least for the next three years or so. It is also generally easier to find good financing terms for new cars as these vehicles still have good value in the market.

Additionally, new cars would most likely be equipped with advanced safety and fuel-efficiency features, as well as the latest gadgets that can make any bona fide car lover go weak in the knees.

Used Cars

Used cars, on the other hand, have the advantage of lower purchase costs. While financing terms for these cars may not be as good as for new ones, insurance premiums will generally be lower. Likewise, you will not have to worry about the depreciation costs that new cars incur year after year.

There is also a growing preference for used cars, as reported in the auto industry publication, Automotive News. The higher prices of new cars have led to the popularity of leased vehicles, which auto dealers also offer for sale to their customers. With this trend, one can expect used cars for sale in Baton Rouge to be in very good condition to meet the growing and more discriminating demand of customers.
