The 2017 Subaru Impreza Near Hammond LA represents a substantial redesign. Not only is it the first U.S.-built Impreza, it is the first to be based on the new global platform. The Impreza is available in hatchback and sedan versions, which have both grown by about an inch and a half for the model year.

Exterior Styling

The previous model year's styling gave a feeling of economy but the 2017 model from Subaru Dealers Near Hammond LA drops the dullness with an expressive, upscale look. The lower, wider stance gives a sporty feel, and distinctive character lines, wheel arches and LED headlights have been carried over from the concept vehicle. Instead of looking just like other cars in its class, it holds up well next to its competitors.

Driving the 2017 Impreza

Past Impreza models were fun to drive, but the 2017 Subaru Impreza is even better. The 2.0L four-cylinder makes slightly more horsepower than last year's model, and mid-range power is stronger and more responsive than previous models. At highway speeds, the CVT's simulated gears step in, giving it the feel of a conventional auto transmission and less engine drone.

On the Inside

There's a Premium edition of the Subaru Impreza available at Hammond LA Subaru dealers, and it is a definite upgrade from the base model. Key surfaces such as door armrests are well padded, and the gear selector and dashboard are lined with faux metal for an authentic look. The Limited model is deserving of its top-of-the-line designation, and its leather surfaces and seats feel very luxurious—as does the dash's detailed stitching. While the plastic panels still have faux metal, it feels and looks more believable on the Limited edition of the Impreza. Both the Premium and the Limited models have bolstered, wider seats than the previous model that provide lasting comfort on long trips.

Storage and Cargo

There's not much storage space in the cabin, but the console is quite deep and has three USB ports for easy charging of devices. Behind the rear seats, the hatchback version of the Impreza offers an impressive 20.8 cu. ft. of storage space, which is a bit more than the Mazda3 hatchback. The sedan version has more trunk space than last year's model, with just over 12.3 cubic feet. Both versions' cargo holds have wide openings for easy unloading, and the seats can fold almost flat for additional cargo capacity. With the increased cargo capacity, drivers will find it easier to haul camping and sporting gear, and weekly grocery shopping trips will be much easier.

Electronics and Ergonomics

The Impreza is Subaru's first vehicle to use a next-gen multimedia system. Each trim line has a standard touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. The system is easy to use and the menu structure is logical. The home button is clearly designated, and the volume and tuning knobs are large and easily accessible. The screen's resolution is sharp, and graphics look fresh and modern.

The Impreza's Safety Features

The Impreza has earned the IIHS' top score for 2017. Subaru claims that the new Impreza's crash energy absorption capability is 40% greater than that of the previous model, which also got top marks from NHTSA and the IIHS. As with other Subaru models, the Impreza comes with a backup camera as standard equipment. This year's model is among one of the most advanced in the compact segment thanks to the EyeSight collision avoidance system that's available on every Impreza except the base version. The newest safety features include auto braking and steering-linked headlights that move as the vehicle turns. Auto high beams join EyeSight on Limited trim lines. The system turns the high beams off and on based on current driving conditions. Subaru's Connected Services and Starlink Safety make a return as well.

Overall Value

Most compact car buyers are very value-conscious, and the Subaru Impreza delivers in a big way. Prices rose slightly for 2017.  Competitors such as the Honda Civic and Mazda3 hatchbacks start out higher and lack the option for AWD. The sedan is similarly value priced and it's less costly than a base-model Civic or Corolla. With its newest redesign, Subaru has created a car that's worthy of consideration.

There are many options in the compact hatchback and sedan markets, but the 2017 Subaru Impreza Near Hammond LA stands out for a variety of reasons, most notably the availability of all-wheel drive and a standard backup camera. With the optional V6, even a lead-footed driver can find something to like about the Impreza.
