Protecting the environment doesn't always mean joining major movements or protest rallies. In fact, one of the simple yet significant things you can do to help preserve natural resources is to drive environmentally friendly cars like hybrids. Fortunately for eco-minded folks, Subaru recently introduced its hybrid offering, the Crosstrek, which is available at Subaru dealers in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and other nearby cities. Don Adair recently wrote a review on the Crosstrek for The Spokesman-Review. Here are some of what he has to say:

"Standard equipment on all Crosstreks includes heated mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, air-conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, heated front seats, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Limited adds automatic headlights, automatic climate control, leather upholstery and a rearview camera.

The Hybrid gets all the features of the Limited, less the leather upholstery, and adds keyless entry and ignition, chrome door handles, quick-ratio electric power steering, wind-cheating active grille shutters and foldable side mirrors."

These features are impressive, but they are just icing on the cake. Indeed, Subaru dealers near Baton Rouge, LA, such as Covington's Baldwin Subaru, would be touting other fine features of the XV Crosstrek Hybrid to interested clients.

First, there's the Crosstrek's hybrid engine; it has a four-cylinder gas engine that packs 148 horsepower and possesses 145 lb-ft of torque, which is combined with a 13 horsepower electric motor. The two switch between each other depending on the speed, with the electric motor handling things until you hit 25 mph, where the gas engine then kicks in.

Second, it makes for an easy driving experience. This is nothing new for Subaru enthusiasts, but the combination of an all-wheel drive and continuous variable transmission (CVT) provides a smooth ride. This carries over to driving off-road; backed by the all-wheel drive, you can expect a Crosstrek to be functional year-round, even during inclement weather conditions. Moreover, the vehicle's higher ground height and lower body cladding fends off any dents and scratches that might happen.

Third, the XV Crosstrek's touring trim or features can make road trips more fun. Nature lovers are sure to enjoy trips to the countryside with a sunroof, HD radio and satellite radio, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen, voice-activated navigation, to name a few touring add-ons. Alongside the fact that it works well off-road, the Crosstrek also has enough space to carry quite a bit of gear. The roof rails are a great addition as well, allowing you to carry mountain bikes, tents, or even a kayak.
