Things to Do for Christmas near New Orleans LA

Parties are being planned! Lights are going up! Decorations are getting unboxed! It's the most wonderful time of the year, yes thankfully, even this year; it's Christmas near New Orleans LA and we're ready to help you celebrate!

Even though this holiday season is going to look and possibly feel a bit different this year due to the ongoing pandemic and resulting restrictions, there are still plenty of options for Christmas activities in the area. No matter if you're yearning for a glimpse of glittering twinkle lights, the joyful sounds of Christmas carols, or a spot on Santa's lap for a photo, you can still find Christmas events planned in and around Covington, Slidell, Mandeville, and the New Orleans metropolitan area.

Lights

There's nothing like strands of sparkling lights festooned on just about anything to get yourself and others into the holiday spirit for Christmas near New Orleans LA. In Covington, you can bring the kids to the free Deck the Rails event on December 5th, from 4 to 7:30 pm at the Covington Trailhead, and then meander through the  historic district to discover all of the 12 Days of Christmas lighted displays. On weekends from December 4th - 27th, go to the Tammany Trace Trailhead at Koop Drive in Mandeville between 5 and 8:30 pm to experience the 21st annual Holiday of Lights, which is a free, drive-through only event for 2020. In Slidell there's plenty of fun to be had at the Olde Town Slidell Community Christmas Parade on December 5th, with decorated and lit-up golf carts cruising the streets all the way to Griffith Park for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree and Christmas under the Stars, which runs 6-9 pm each Friday and Saturday, from December 4th - January 3rd, 2021. If you have extra money to spend, a drive across the Causeway Bridge to City Park for Celebration in the Oaks is a popular and truly beautiful display.

Music

Is its melodious holiday music that gets you in a festive mood? The city of Covington is hosting free, all-ages caroling event called Candlelight Caroling at Covington Trailhead on December 11, 2020 from 7 - 8:30 pm. Families will delight in listening and singing along with area musicians and singing groups who'll perform favorite holiday songs. Also scheduled on this date is the Northlake Performing Arts Society's An Old Fashioned Christmas concert at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mandeville from 7:30 - 9 pm. A Christmas near New Orleans LA event that's sure to warm everyone's heart is St. Timothy United Methodist Church's Christmas on the Northshore Concert which will be streamed on the church website on December 17th at 3:00 pm then again at 7:00 that night.

Christmas near New Orleans LA: Finding Santa

Santa can be seen at some select spots across the parish this season and will sit with the children for photos at some. You can find him at the outdoor Merry Madisonville, Pelican Park's Breakfast with Santa, the Olde Towne Slidell Christmas Parade, and the Cajun Christmas at Big Branch visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the SE Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge Center in Lacombe from 9:00 am - 4 pm on December 12th. Kids of all ages are invited to the Center for story time, hot cocoa, and cookies.

Trees

If choosing and chopping down a fresh tree is the first step in your holiday plans, there are several tree farms in our area. Country Pines Christmas Tree Farm, Tiger Branch Christmas Trees, and Shady Pond Tree Farm are all in St. Tammany Parish, while Christmas Town and Yawn Station Christmas Tree Farm are located in Tangipahoa Parish, just a short drive down I-12. And Steele's Christmas Tree Farm in the tiny town of Angie, is celebrating 40 years in neighboring Washington Parish.
